How to make a location QR code in 3 steps

A scan-ready map pin is three steps away.
  1. Pick Coordinates, Address or Plus Code, then enter the GPS position, the Plus Code or the place name.
  2. Style the code in step 2: colors, a logo, a frame or a template.
  3. Download the PNG or SVG and test-scan it before printing it on signs or flyers.

What happens when someone scans a location QR code

The code stores a Google Maps link - GPS coordinates, a Plus Code or a searched place name - encoded directly inside the pattern. When a camera scans it, the phone opens the link: Android and iOS hand it to the maps app, other devices open Google Maps in the browser, and the place is already found - nobody types an address. A Google Maps link is used instead of a raw geo: coordinate because it opens the map app on Android and iOS and works in any browser elsewhere. Check the pin on the map once before printing, keep the place name short enough for the pattern, and print the code at least 2 cm wide so it stays easy to scan.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. Creating, styling and downloading QR codes here costs nothing, requires no registration and adds no watermark. There is no paid version of this tool.

Do the generated QR codes expire?

No. These are static QR codes: the content is encoded directly inside the pattern, so the code itself never expires and depends on no service. A URL code keeps working as long as the website it points to stays online.

Can I use the QR codes for my business?

Yes. The codes are yours to use for any purpose, including commercial projects, products and paid advertising. No attribution is required.

Which download format should I choose?

PNG is the safest all-round choice for screens and documents, JPG is fine when file size matters, WebP gives a smaller modern file, and SVG is the one to pick for print because it scales to any size without going blurry.

Can I change the design of a QR code later?

Yes. Your content and style settings stay saved in this browser, so reopening the page brings back exactly where you left off. You can then restyle the code and download it again at any time - just remember to replace previously printed copies.

Can I use a Plus Code?

Yes. Enter a full code such as 8FVC9G8F+6X, or a short code with its city, such as 9G8F+6X Berlin - a short code alone is not enough. Google Maps shows the Plus Code under the address of every place; the QR code opens Google Maps at that exact spot.
