How to make an SMS QR code in 3 steps
- Enter the phone number and, if you want, the message the phone should pre-fill.
- Style the code in step 2: colors, logo, frame or a template.
- Download it and test-scan it before printing it on signs, flyers or packaging.
What happens when someone scans an SMS QR code
The code holds an SMSTO link: your number and an optional message in one pattern. When it is scanned, the phone opens the default messaging app with a new message addressed to that number and the text already typed in, and the sender decides when to send it - no number is typed and nothing is sent automatically. This works the same on iPhone and Android, with any free scanner app on older phones. Include the country code so the message works for international contacts, check the number digit by digit before printing, and keep the message short because every character makes the pattern denser. Test-scan the finished code once, and print it at least 2 cm wide so it stays easy to scan.
Frequently asked questions
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. Creating, styling and downloading QR codes here costs nothing, requires no registration and adds no watermark. There is no paid version of this tool.
Do the generated QR codes expire?
No. These are static QR codes: the content is encoded directly inside the pattern, so the code itself never expires and depends on no service. A URL code keeps working as long as the website it points to stays online.
Can I use the QR codes for my business?
Yes. The codes are yours to use for any purpose, including commercial projects, products and paid advertising. No attribution is required.
Which download format should I choose?
PNG is the safest all-round choice for screens and documents, JPG is fine when file size matters, WebP gives a smaller modern file, and SVG is the one to pick for print because it scales to any size without going blurry.
Can I change the design of a QR code later?
Yes. Your content and style settings stay saved in this browser, so reopening the page brings back exactly where you left off. You can then restyle the code and download it again at any time - just remember to replace previously printed copies.
